The T.B. Lettsome International Airport is the primary airport serving the British Virgin Islands.  The airport currently handles approximately 200,000 annual passengers, of which 70% are visitors.  This represents less than 25% of overnight visitors to the BVI, with most of  the remainder arriving by ferry from St. Thomas.  The primary constraint on the growth in traffic at the airport is that the runway length is insufficient to allow for direct service from the United States mainland.

The proposed expansions include two separate buildings located to the east and to the west of the existing terminal connected with short corridors. The building to the west would include a new departure lounge, while the building to the east includes a new baggage claim area and arrivals facility. The check-in hall in the centre of the terminal is expanded into the existing seating area, adjacent to the departure area.
